HEXATHALON ~ 2008

So, you may be asking yourself, what IS a Hexathalon? I know I did. Well, I still couldn't tell you exactly what is, but man~ we had a great time. As a 6th grader, you have to be chosen to be on the Hexathalon team. They do not choose you by just athletic ability. You have to be a good student, citizen~ a well rounded person. So, of course Caleb was choosen :-) The athletes get to miss a day of school to compete against other local elementary schools. Our school had such a truly great group of kids! Caleb participated in 3 events - the softball throw (those are the pictures where it truly looks like he is an agony) - the 800 meter race - and the tug of war. I really could write for a very long time about the entire day.........however I don't want to bore you. Just because I think it is all very interesting, and worthy of time, does not mean that everyone does. Caleb has a good friend Aidan. He is homeschooled. I called his mom in the morning to let her know we were just down the road at the Castle View for Caleb's Hexathalon, and would love for Aidan to come watch. She said Aidan could come as soon as he woke up, he was asleep outside on the trampoline, it was after 9:00, man my boys would just LOVE it if we homeschooled. Now, Caleb is an athlete that gives it all he has. However, he is not the fastest runner per say. He ran the 800 with all of his heart. He started in the lead ~ "yea ! Go Caleb" However, half way through his second lap, he started to fall behind...... now enter Aidan and Calebs entire team. It was unbelievable to me to get to watch this. Caleb's team posted themselves around the track and rooted and cheered for him the entire race. Aidan, (in his VANN's and droopy shorts) ran around the track his entire race !!! As Caleb came in for the last leg, he was behind. How cool was it to watch those kids running with him. How COOL was is it for Aidan to get to be a part of it to run right along side with him....ok, it was VERY cool ! Of course I had to help out too. As Caleb came into the last stretch, I took my place just beyond the finish line and started in..."GO CALEB ~ YOU CAN DO IT~ PUSH IIIIIT !!!!" Man he kicked it in and WON!!!!!! It still gives me goose bumps!!! What a fun day. Thanks so much Coach Arnell for all you do for our kids, they are such a great group! **Oh, the picture where all the kids are huddled in a circle. They are praying! We don't attend a Christian School, how cool is that.
